LetsGoDigital announces that Xiaomi is working on an innovative camera system for smartphones based on patent images.
This time we are talking about a movable camera that allows you to get an image with a wide viewing angle using a system of two modules. In theory, this system will allow you to take high-quality wide-angle images without distortion.
Xiaomi is developing a smartphone with a movable camera module
The patent was filed by Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in October 2019. On July 30, 2020, the patent was approved and also published in the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) database.
Modern phone models are equipped with wide-angle lenses, the disadvantage of which is that distortion often occurs in photographs, which is why the pictures do not correspond to reality. Xiaomi’s patented technology should solve this problem.
The extensive documentation talks about using two low angle cameras. Cameras can move in sync with each other, which greatly expands the effective range of viewing angles. This allows high-quality wide-angle photos to be taken without the need for a wide-angle lens that distorts reality.
In patent images, the cameras are horizontally spaced apart, but the description states that this technology can also be used with a vertically placed camera system.
