The Würzburg start-up WeSort.AI is the winner of the nationwide “Foundation Competition – Digital Innovations” of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.
The recently founded Würzburg start-up has developed a machine that sorts large amounts of waste much more cost-effectively and much cleaner than ever before. This should achieve a classification purity of more than 90 percent and allow a closed recycling loop.
Customers are currently testing two waste analysis modules for light packaging and electronic waste. Since the end of 2021 there has also been a cooperation with the Fraunhofer Development Center for X-Ray Technology (EZRT) to jointly develop sensors and hardware.
Congratulations from the City Hall
“I am delighted with the great success of WeSort.AI. With AI, you are addressing an urgent problem of our time: the increasing amount of waste. Würzburg is one of the Bavarian centers for artificial intelligence and will be equipped with numerous new chairs in the field of data science by 2023 as part of the high-tech agenda of the Bavarian state government. As a city, we hope that innovative start-ups like WeSort.AI will emerge from this,” said Würzburg Mayor Christian Schuchardt.
The award ceremony took place online on Wednesday. The team receives 32,000 euros in prize money.
