It’s amazing how creative some online fans are when it comes to finding information about upcoming games or content from their favorite franchises. Because in addition to numerous stories in the past, there is currently another curious find that will most likely give us some initial information about the next World of Warcraft expansion.
Consequently, the next commercial expansion for World of Warcraft will be “Dragonflight”. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight could, and this is about the only limitation that needs to be mentioned here, possibly still an internal title to be changed before the official reveal in two weeks. However, we consider this unlikely.
Blizzard informed the Warcraft community on March 7 of a roadmap that includes several key dates throughout the spring of 2022, with news announced and events kicking off across various games in the Warcraft universe. Against this background, we also learned that the next WoW Retail expansion will be officially revealed on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
But two weeks in advance we already know at least the name. Dragon flight. In terms of content, there is unfortunately not too much material revealed. The leak, which can no longer be independently verified, only contains a reference to three versions in addition to the name of the next expansion. Regardless of the location of the find, which we’ll discuss in a moment, this doesn’t seem too far-fetched, as Blizzard has regularly offered various versions of WoW expansions for sale in the past.
This is how it’s supposed to be again with World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. According to the information found, a “WoW Dragonflight Heroic” version and a “WoW Dragonflight Epic” version will be available for purchase in addition to the basic version, which will probably come with different bonuses. It is unknown if the “Epic” version of the game is even a Collector’s Edition. However, it should be possible to upgrade from any version to the next higher version.
This is how the leak came about
As already mentioned at the beginning, the creativity behind the user’s idea of searching for information that has not yet been disclosed at this point and in this way is to be commended for this finding.
A WoW fan managed to find a link in the source code of the official WoW home page, which in turn refers to a .js file that can be opened in the browser and contains a large amount of code. In this code, in turn, the name “WoW Dragonflight” was hidden several times and there is a reference to a product that is planned for early sale, has product numbers and is connected to the store.
In the meantime, Blizzard removed these entries from the corresponding file, which in turn leads us to assume that there is actually something to find.
This leak, which comes directly from Blizzard, was summarized and demonstrated in the video by content creator ‘MrGM’:
It reproduces the path there at an earlier time, when the corresponding lines could still be found, and also shows other material that more than just strengthens the suspicion that the leak is correct.
In addition to text in a Blizzard file on the World of Warcraft home page, there are screenshots from an Instagram story that showed multiple variations of artwork that featured not only a “World of Warcraft: Dragonflight” logo, but also Alexstrasza. in both human and dragon form.
This artwork, in turn, can be associated with various .bmp image files that were integrated into World of Warcraft as part of patch 9.2.5.42850. These have yet to be named, but their design is similar to the aforementioned Alexstrasza artwork.
The WoW Champion platform has also found further proof of the authenticity of the content which, in addition to the files and lines of code already mentioned, has uncovered other certificates said to be connected to the “dragonflight.blizzard.com” domain. . You can find all the details about it. here. On the same platform there was already a forum post on February 8 this year, which wants to know even more detailed information about the upcoming expansion.
Including: The main villain, details on new and revised areas, details on changes to existing and even new classes, new professions, the new capital, and more. If all this is correct, there are hardly any secrets left for the next plugin. Since we don’t want to spoil you too much and are skeptical about the accuracy of this information, there is only one here. Link to relevant thread on the MMO Champion forumin case you want to read all this for yourself.
Disclaimer: Please note that despite all the information, this is still an unconfirmed leak and of course Blizzard has not confirmed the authenticity. Quite the contrary: the information is no longer available.
Exactly about this, about the specific content of the next WoW Retail expansion, we will definitely know more in two weeks when Blizzard wants to drop the covers completely on April 19, 2022.
