As always, there are a few favorites, a few surprises, and of course our favorite. Therefore, we will have fun evaluating everyone’s possibilities. Who will make it The Last of Us Part IIWho had won it all in December 2020?
Who will be voted Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2021?
Le grand favori: Deathloop (8 nominations)
Deathloop is the big favorite of The Game Awards 2021 for an obvious reason: it is nominated in 8 categories. Its chances are very high, especially since its qualities are immense. While we didn’t understand the first trailers released, the Arkane title convinced at its release. Articulate an effective game around a cleverly used time cycle. The action gradually fades, as a veritable puzzle takes shape. There is only one solution to solving the equation and it is brilliant from the first to the last minute.
Appointed to Game of the Year, Best Directing, Best Narration, Best Art Direction, Best Soundtrack, Best Sound Design, Best Performance, and Best Action Game.
Available in : PS5 and PC.
The note of our deathloop test : 5/5
Le vrai challengeger: It Takes Two (5 nominations)
Who would have thought that a game playable exclusively in cooperative mode could claim the title of Game of the Year? Not many people. But that would be forgetting his immense generosity, which gives rise to very beautiful moments, living with a loved one or as a couple (since we embody a couple). With It takes two, Hazelight Studios is polishing a formula it masters with loads of ideas. The experience is constantly renewed and, as a bonus, the story is very moving. Spoiler: It’s been on Xbox Game Pass for a few days and only one version is required to play for two.
Appointed to : Game of the Year, Best Directing, Best Storytelling, Best Family Game, and Best Multiplayer.
Available in : PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S et PC.
The note of notre test of It Takes Two : 5/5
Our Favorite: Psychonauts 2 (5 Nominations)
Another title that we really didn’t see coming… However, there is a true creator behind it: Tim Schafer. The latter has already lent his talents to cult games like Maniac Mansion, the The secret of monkey island, Manic Mansion: Tentacle Day or Grim Fandango. Psychonauts 2 he is very sincere: he goes everywhere to better treat a serious problem (mental illness). In terms of gameplay, the situations are of an astonishing variety and are carried out with fine and fair handwriting. A very, very important game.
Appointed to : Game of the Year, Best Director, Best Storytelling, Best Art Direction, and Best Action / Adventure Game
Available in : PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S et PC.
The note of our Psychonauts 2 test : 5/5
The slightly too obvious choice: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (6 nominations)
Yes, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart it’s visually stunning – hands down the most attractive game on the PlayStation 5 (by far). His technical qualities are a bluff. But, behind its advantageous clothing, this exclusivity hides a more agreed experience. Nothing has drastically changed for the duo, who continue to take on enemies with an insane arsenal. If elected, the jury will simply have rewarded efficiency. And that would be a bit embarrassing.
Appointed to Game of the Year, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Audio Design, Best Accessibility, and Best Action / Adventure Game.
Available in : PS5.
Our test score Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart : 5/5
Intruder # 1: Resident Evil Village (4 nominations)
Is this the power of the saga? Is this the way Capcom has managed to raise the bar after several disappointing episodes? However, we do not understand this quote. Resident Evil Village it has some arguments to make in the horror genre, but not enough to make it a game of the year. On the other hand, we put a play on actress Maggie Robertson for her creepy incarnation of Lady Dimistrescu – emblematic character of Resident Evil Village.
Appointed to : Game of the Year, Best Audio Design, Best Performance, and Best Action / Adventure Game.
Available in : PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S et PC.
The note of our proof of Resident Evil Village : 4/5
Intruder # 2: Metroid Dread (2 nominations)
We wonder what Metroid Dread comes to do there … In our eyes, he has absolutely no chance of being cast and owes his presence to the desire to fill a void (without him, there would be no Switch game in the selection). Nevertheless, Metroid Dread It’s still an interesting title for Switch owners (especially OLED), but there are too many flaws to hold onto just it in 2021.
Appointed to : Game of the Year and Best Action / Adventure Game.
Available in : Nintendo Switch.
The note of notre Metroid Dread test : 4/5
