The UP government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, plans to distribute free tablets and smartphones to about a crore of university students (undergraduate and graduate students from technical, medical and nursing institutions) in the state. The state government is considering distributing these tablets and smartphones to students enrolled in the skills development program.

The prime minister of Uttar Pradesh in a meeting ordered the authorities to prepare a list of eligible students so that they can distribute smartphones and tablets by the end of November. Chief Secretary RK Tiwari said the team would allow students to digitize and create job opportunities for them. He ordered the state universities to prepare the information of the registered students of their affiliated colleges and send it to the office of the District Magistrate.
Delivery will be in the last week of November.
While laying the foundation stone for a government medical college in Sultanpur, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced that his government would distribute tablets and smartphones to young people in late November. The state government will start providing tablets and laptops to the youth of Uttar Pradesh from the last week of November to equip them with the latest technology.

The UP government has also proposed providing free laptops to sophomores and juniors. The state government plans to provide 20 lakh of free laptops to students who cannot afford these devices.
