- Classic THPS2 -Old control scheme from the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. Permission: Manual and stance switching. Bans: Undo, spinal migration, acid drop, certain tricks.
support: You can enable the following options to make playing the game easier. These are great for beginners while getting the skater’s legs. Keep in mind that scores will not be uploaded to the leaderboards if you enable any of the following:
- Perfect rail balance- Turning it on eliminates the need to maintain balance when grinding.
- Perfect manual balance- When turned on, you don’t have to maintain a balance when you write a manual.
- Perfect Lip Balance- Turning this on eliminates the need to maintain balance when performing lip tricks.
- Always special- If this is turned on, the special meter will always be full.
- No bail- If you turn this on, the trick will never fail.
Extend the combo with reversion and manual
This is pretty basic, but beginners should have the habit of doing a return and a manual. With these features, you can stitch tricks together and keep combos incredibly long. This allows you to collect hundreds of thousands and even millions of points at once. When you get to the apex ramp, press R2 back in the same way you would press the ramp. Manual is performed by pressing the directional pad from top to bottom. Press down then up to display the nose manual. You can combine these techniques to build some insane scores.
Turn the board forward when landing
It may sound obvious, but you need to make sure your skateboard is in the right direction. If you want to make a few turns up a vertical ramp, make sure you are in the right direction before landing. Otherwise you will fail the trick and you will fall. The same is true on flat ground. If your wheels aren’t facing the right way, you’re going to bail, which may cost you a lot of points.
Mix tricks
If you want to achieve these very big scores, you have to keep a variety of things. The trick loses its point value each time it repeats on a run. In other words, you can’t get on the leaderboard just by spamming the kick flip and melon love. Use weapons full of tricks and abilities when pulling out combos to earn more points. Change the directional input to perform different tricks, remember some special tricks and even throw them into your mix. Diversity is the spice of life and the key to high scores.
Straighten with R2
From time to time you will find yourself rushing towards the ground, and you are not going to land on your board. If you hit the apex ramp but are heading to a flat surface, there is a way to readjust yourself to avoid bail. Press and hold R2 and your skater will straighten, place your skateboard under you and land safely.
If in doubt, sharpen it
You can usually see where you are heading for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, but sometimes you are in awkward position. If you’re flying in the sky and don’t know where to land, press and hold Triangle. Triangle is a way to separate lip tricks, grinds and wall rides. As such, it is a very versatile button and can also be used as a bit of a safety net. Having a Triangle makes you much more likely to style your grind or wall ride. Of course, this isn’t guaranteed, but it works better than you might think, as the levels of the game are full of curbs, rails, and vertical surfaces.
Wall is not an enemy
If you’re heading to the wall, you might think it’s the end of your combo. In fact, the wall is an opportunity to continue the combo. Pressing the triangle will allow you to perform a wall ride as described above, but you can also do a wall plant. Let’s say you’re grinding and you’re heading for a flat wall. Run the wall plant by jumping off the rail and hitting X while trying to hit the wall. It bounces off the wall and pushes it in the opposite direction. How nice!
