One piece of information shared during the recent Microsoft and Bethesda roundtable, which may have escaped most, is the important number of players reached for The Elder Scrolls Online: 18 million. To reveal it was the director of ZeniMax Online Studios, Matt Firor, who spoke of how in 2020 alone the MMORPG of the Bethesda flagship series has obtained 3 million new players. Not bad given the game’s initial failure, which had sparked fear of the worst, Firor himself admitted.
However, Aaron Greenberg, Xbox Game Marketing General Manager, celebrated theMMORPG from Zenimax Online as the number one online multiplatform RPG in the world, possibly second only to World of Warcraft for overall following. It is therefore a high value purchase for the portfolio of Xbox game studios, as well as one of the most lucrative titles among those that are already active and that Xbox lost.
The Elder Scrolls Online is not the only title in the Bethesda pack that has been relaunched. Fallout 76 itself got off to a stormy start, only to bounce back on the run thanks to Phil Spencer’s advice.
