Like every year since 2016, Steam looks back at the previous twelve months and reveals the best-selling or most-played games. As you know, in NoFrag, only FPS is valuable to us. So to save you the sight of Fall boys or another Farming Simulator, I made a snippet of the titles that really matter. This year, Steam offered the top 100 best sellers, since best news, since most popular games, since titles released early access, since best virtual reality games and finally, the flagship category for great journalists: the top 100 games with controllers. It could well be said that just by reading this title, I had to rinse my eyes with hydroalcoholic gel. I only kept the best sales and the number of concurrent players. And since I love Excel ™, I also compiled results from previous years. Here is a small table:
The games that generated the most revenue are classified into the following groups: the top 12 in platinum, the next 12 in gold, the next 16 in silver, and the last 60 in bronze. As the article says, there is no number and the games are displayed in each group in random order.
For the most popular games, there was a big increase in the number of players between 2019 and 2020, so Steam had to review its categories. He simply doubled them: the number of more than 100,000 simultaneous players increased to more than 200,000, and so on. That’s why we see CS: GO from more than 100,000 to more than 200,000, when in reality the number of simultaneous players peaked at nearly 750,000 in 2019 and 1,309,000 in 2020 …
So it’s good CS: GO which reigns supreme on Steam on the multiplayer FPS side, followed by PUBG and Destiny 2. The latter does not have its complete history since it only arrived on the platform in 2019. We also note that Rainbow Six: Siege, despite not being exclusive to Steam, it remains in the top 12 since 2017 in terms of revenue.
For single player games, good to see Eternal DOOM in the best sellers and most played. It is obviously outmatched by Cyberpunk 2077, which had already started to appear at the top in 2019 with pre-orders …
