Scoring and other offensive numbers continue to increase throughout the seven weeks of the college football season, and weekends show why.
Clemson scored 73 points against Georgia Institute of Technology, North Texas scored 52 in central Tennessee, Memphis scored 50 against Central Florida, and Arkansas 59-52 over Georgia this week. It started from the fact that it exceeded.
Seven teams have scored at least 63 points in this season’s match. Throughout the 2019 season, the team hit 63 points 18 times. Also, keep in mind that the coronavirus pandemic has played only 77 of the 130 FBS teams so far.
The Big Ten and Mountain West Conference will open this season, and the Pac-12 and Mid-American Conference will begin in the first week of November.
The average FBS score of 30.3 points has risen by more than one point since last season, slightly above the 2016 record of 30 points per game. The average 3.89 touchdowns per team is slightly above the 2016 record of 3.82.
The average total attack of 412 yards is the second fastest pace since NCAA began to set a record in 1937, behind the record of 417 yards per game in 2016.
Five teams have exceeded 700 yards in the game. North Texas did it twice.
A total of 1,501 yards in UCF (798) and Memphis (703) was the record for the American Athletic Conference. Another offensive explosion on Saturday saw North Texas build up a 768-yard program record against Middle Tennessee and Clemson go 671 to Georgia Institute of Technology.
With 243 yards per game, it is on track to break the 238 record set in 2012. There are 10 games in which the team has thrown at least 470 yards.
Six teams passed over 400 yards over the weekend. Central Florida led Memphis by 601 against Memphis, which was itself 486.
Running wild
Liberty rushed 338 yards with a 38-21 victory at Syracuse. This is the second highest total of 30 games in FBS history. Last year, Flames broke the program record. At a low of minus 4 yards, he lost 24-0 to Orange.
Flame (5-0) averages 268 yards per game on the ground and ranks fourth among teams that have played at least four games.
As easy as 1-2-3
Arkansas cornerback Hudson Clark was the first SEC freshman to intercept Mississippi three passes and make three picks in the game since 2003.
Sack sensation
BYU recorded 16 sack in 5 games. In 2019, Cougar won 17 sack in 13 games.
Freshman defensive lineman Tyler Bati leads the cougar with four sack. Senior linebacker Isaiah Kaufusi, who entered the season with one bag in 35 career games, has played three times in the first five games.
TD PASSES GALORE
Arkansas had a record of the Sun Belt Conference, which made eight touchdown passes to Georgia. This is the highest national season record and the highest since Washington lost to UCLA in September 2019 and scored nine goals.
Arkansas starter Logan Bonner threw three TDs, Rainhatcher threw four, and wide receiver Roshod Paul threw one.
Red wolves have 14 TD passes and no pass cuts in the last two games.
