With the x15 R2 and x17 R2 gaming laptops, the Dell Alienware brand now uses 12th Gen Intel Core H processors with up to 14 cores and 16 or 32 GB and x17 to increase performance compared to the first generation of flat R2 gaming PCs, including up to 64GB of very fast LPDDR5-5200 memory. The Alienware x14, which is also equipped with Alder Lake H, is the third model in the X series.

With the x14 being just 14.5mm thin and weighing 1.8kg, the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 is the strongest graphics option with a power budget of up to 85 watts, with the two sister models weighing 2, 34 and 2.96 kg, the selection extends to the RTX 3080 Ti with up to 140 watts for graphics. Complex voltage regulation should ensure high continuous output. Alienware equips PC variants with more powerful GPUs with a more powerful Cryo-Tech cooling solution. Gallium-silicon heat conductors and up to four individually controlled fans are used. In the x14, an M.2 NVMe SSD with a size of up to two TB serves as mass storage, in the x15 R2 and x17 R2 there is room for up to two M.2 SSDs, which can also work in a RAID 0 formation. Killer WLAN modules with Wi-Fi 6 are responsible for the wireless network connection. The 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch models also have a 2.5Gbps Ethernet adapter, and the x15 R2 has a USB-C to RJ-45 adapter. Thunderbolt 4 is basically part of the team.

An 80 Wh battery takes care of off-the-plug power on the x14. The x15 R2 and x17 R2 have built-in 87Wh battery packs.

Alienware uses a Full HD display with a 144Hz refresh rate for the x14, which is compatible with Nvidia G-Sync and Advanced Optimus, according to the manufacturer, a first for 14-inch laptops. In the two larger models, in addition to Full HD panels with up to 360 Hz, there are also higher resolution panels to choose from: QHD with 240 Hz for the x15 R2 and UHD with 120 Hz for the x17 R2. The two larger models also offer Nvidia G-Sync and Advanced Optimus. All panels are Dolby Vision certified. The X-series flat case is made of aluminum and magnesium. RGB LEDs on the case and keyboard that can be programmed with AlienFX software provide lighting effects for gaming. The x17 R2 is also available with a Cherry MX ULP mechanical keyboard. The Alienware x14 starts at €2,299 (RRP) and the x17 R2 starts at €2,399 (RRP). Dell currently only offers the Alienware x15 R2 as a variant with the RTX 3080 Ti. It costs from 3,499 euros (RRP).

Alienware m15 R7: Ryzen will arrive later

The not-so-flat m15 gaming laptop with a 15.6-inch screen also gets a 7th-gen performance boost thanks to Intel’s 12th-gen Core H processors, which can access up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM. -4800.

Dell is launching Alienware m15 R7 with Core i7-12700U and Nvidia Geforce RTX 3050 Ti or 3060 as the first model in the R7 series. As with the x15 R2, you can choose between two Full HD panels with 165 or 360 Hz and one 240 Hz QHD panel.

The notebook, which can also be equipped with an optional mechanical Cherry keyboard, starts at 1,999 euros (RRP). AMD versions of the gaming laptop will follow later in the spring. Here, Ryzen 6000 processors are found on the motherboard, and Radeon RX GPUs are available as a graphics solution.

The XPS 13 Plus, powered by a 12th Gen Intel Core processor, is one of the highlights of Dell's CES launches.
