See inside iPhone 12 and 12 Pro with iFixit’s latest teardown video

Date:

In the latest disassembly video, iFixit disassembled the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro and found that the inside of the device was very similar. The display is replaceable, iFixit is found, and the 10.78Wh battery is also replaceable.

When they removed the iPhone 12’s camera shield, iFixit found a plastic spacer on the iPhone 12 Pro with a telephoto lens and a LiDAR sensor. Both devices have 12MP wide and ultra wide cameras.

iFixit also examined the x-rays inside the phone (provided by Creative Electron) showing the MagSafe wireless charging array. The X-ray picture of the iPhone 12 Pro looks like it has a black border, which is a stainless steel frame (the iPhone 12 has an aluminum frame).

In terms of repairability score, iFixit gave the iPhone 12s 6 out of 10. The device has a lot of screws to keep track of when tinkering (iFixit is better than glue), and better waterproofness can make it harder to repair, but water damage. It is less likely that it will need to be repaired. According to iFixit, the biggest drawback is the glass on the front and back of both devices, which increases the chances of damaging the phone if it falls.
