Central Bank of Portugal made delivery of licenses for cryptocurrency exchanges Criptoloja and Mind the Coin. Trading platforms have been recognized as “virtual asset service providers”.
The head of Cryptoloja, Pedro Borges, said in a comment CoinDeskthat the bitcoin exchange submitted an application on September 29, 2020 and received its license almost nine months later.
“It has been a long journey. Being the first regulated exchange in Portugal means a lot ”, added the CEO.
According to Borges, Criptoloja will launch a listing “in the coming weeks.” Customers of the bitcoin exchange can now create accounts.
The CEO added that Criptoloja will bring together the Portuguese who want to invest in cryptocurrencies but are hesitant to open a wallet on foreign trade platforms.
At the end of April 2021, said the executive director of the Central Bank of Portugal Live money upon receiving five requests for registration of bitcoins exchanges. In September 2020, the authority to oversee virtual asset management companies was transferred to the regulator.
Remember that in May 2021 the volume of operations in cryptocurrency exchanges surpassed $ 2 trillion for the first time.
