They say you cannot get champagne on a beer finances, but Mission’s new LX MkII speaker variety would seem to recommend otherwise. The extended LX MkII range – now 9 speakers solid – sports some of the significant-close driver engineering located on the audio firm’s pricier QX array.
There are now three, rather than two, pairs of standmounters to choose from: LX-1 MkII (£189) , LX-2 MkII (£229) and LX-3 MkII (£279). There are also a few new floorstanders: LX-4 MkII (£399), LX-5 MkII (£499) and LX-6 MkII (£599).
And when the recent LX vary provides just just one dwelling cinema speaker, Mission now presents a few solutions – two centre speakers in addition a pair of LX-3D MkII encompass speakers (£249) that can be wall-mounted or positioned on top of the floorstanders as upward-firing Dolby Atmos speakers.
The first Mission LX variety introduced again in 2016 and they remain some of the the most entertaining and convincing speakers we’ve read at this selling price stage. So how will the MkII line-up up the ante to present “deluxe sound at entry-stage charges”?
For starters, the MkII speakers get beefed-up motorists with surrounds that activity the pretty same ‘comb-tooth serrations’ uncovered on the firm’s fancier QX selection. Mission suggests the addition of the serrations can help to “scatter interfering reflections”, meaning that the Mission LX MkII speakers should offer a smoother frequency response than the previous generation.
The MkIIs also get a recently-made 25mm microfibre dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet, explained to audio much more “crisp and detailed”. Meanwhile, the floorstanders are kitted out with a new edition of Mission’s DiaDrive bass/midrange drive unit, which promises a decent boost in performance and reaction.
On the hunt for budget hello-fi speakers? The Mission LX MkII Series will be obtainable in September in a option of smooth-contact matt black or white, or walnut for those who want a wooden-style finish.
And with respected speaker designer Peter Comeau powering the new selection, we have superior hopes.
