Munich (ots) – As an official partner of gamescom 2022, McDonald’s Germany returns after three years at the world’s largest gaming event and for the first time combines its commitment to gaming with communication on sustainability. The highlight of the on-site activation is McDonald’s first Escape Room in the so-called “Better M” cube. McDelivery® is also the title sponsor of the gamescom cosplay contest.
McDonald’s Germany is represented at gamescom in Cologne for the fourth time and will therefore once again be an exhibitor at the world’s largest event for computer and video games from August 24-28. The event, which last took place analogically in 2019, kicked off the “gamescom going green” sustainability project this year. With the new and sustainable concept, gamescom wants to play a pioneering role together with its partners when it comes to climate protection. In addition to supporting the gamescom forest, McDonald’s Germany is also making this commitment at this year’s on-site activation and presenting the brand’s most important sustainability measures in a playful way as part of its “Better M” trust campaign. “McDonald’s is everywhere people are excited about something – gamescom in Cologne has been one of them for us for years. We’re happy to finally be there again after three years as part of the gaming community. McDonald’s represents the pop culture, but at the same time, we want to show a target group that is so important to us that we take responsibility, for the environment and for society,” says Markus Weiß, company spokesman for McDonald’s Germany.
At the booth in Hall 8.1, gamescom visitors are invited to experience McDonald’s Germany’s commitment to sustainability in a playful way. The highlight of the 2,000-square-foot booth is the so-called “Better M” cube, which will be transformed into the first official McDonald’s Escape Room. The game elements were designed and implemented by the game experts at LOCKED Adventures. As part of the McDonald’s team, you must solve various puzzles in a mini restaurant replica to beat “THE CUBE” high score in a fight against time. The main prize is the legendary McDonald’s Gold Cards for the winning team. In addition to the Escape Room, McDonald’s will take booth visitors on their journey to a more sustainable future with the help of augmented reality mini-games. The company is focusing on the issues of plastic and waste reduction, as well as recycling. Gaming influencer Jasmin “Gnu” and comedian Kaya Yanar will also be guests on August 25.
On Saturday in Hall 10.1, around 50 entrants will submit their stunning costumes to the gamescom cosplay contest sponsored by McDelivery® for awards in the Best Costume, Best Dressed, Best Group and Best Armed categories. Anyone who can’t make it to gamescom can also take part in the event via gamescom EPIX and make their way through a digital gaming adventure – McDonald’s quests will soon be waiting for users there too.
The activation at the end of August will be accompanied by the use of digital advertising spaces on the event site and in the Cologne city area and various social media content. In addition, McDonald’s Germany will release its new game clip “Missing Gamer” on the occasion of gamescom. His story is about an idea that every gamer knows: an evening with friends in the favorite online multiplayer game, but time and time again the other players make us wait. Hunger drives them away from the keyboard (AFK = Away from Keyboard), although the solution would be that simple: McDelivery®. The clip was made in cooperation with the production company NEUESUPER and the director Nicolas Bori. In addition to gamescom, the piece of content will be used specifically in the gaming environment through an online media campaign.
