Lenovo announces gaming smartphones with UFS and SSD in Raid-0

Date:

Chinese PC maker Lenovo has announced that it wants to use a Raid 0 configuration for internal memory in its new gaming smartphone for the first time. In addition to the normal internal flash memory, Lenovo also wants to integrate an SSD and thus achieve higher speeds.

like lenovo through one of your accounts Twitter’s Chinese counterpart Weibo announced that the new Legion Y90 wants to use a memory configuration that is unusual, at least for smartphones. In addition to the normal UFS-based flash memory, the new gaming phone should also have a solid-state drive (SSD).

Raid-0 should guarantee faster random writes

According to Lenovo, a combination of the already fast UFS 3.1 storage, which has been common in high-end smartphones for some time, and an SSD will be used. It is not yet clear how exactly the latter is connected. An NVMe-based interface will likely be used to achieve the highest transfer rates possible.

The manufacturer states that the SSD and UFS storage must be interconnected in a Raid 0 configuration. Therefore, they must not complement each other to increase storage capacity. Instead, according to Lenovo, it’s about increasing write performance for random accesses. Lenovo promises an increase of around 50 percent, but hasn’t given any details yet.

The Lenovo Legion Y90 is scheduled to launch on February 28 in China, though as with all of Lenovo’s gaming smartphones, it’s unclear if it will ever launch in other regions of the world. Like most other current high-end models, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 runs on the Legion Y90, an octa-core SoC clocked at up to 3.0 gigahertz. The chip can also support NVMe SSDs with proper configuration.
