“Players all over the world love League and the universe. Your passion inspires us to design Runeterra to do justice to the fan base. The launch of Arcane marks the beginning of the next chapter of Riot and we can’t wait for players to see what we have in store for them in the areas of games, entertainment and sports. To celebrate this moment, we are putting the player at the center of a fantastic experience. The World Cup and Arcane will come together in a unified global festival that will unite competition, entertainment and community in a whole new way. You can think of it as a super weekend for the players. “
That’s what Arcane is about
Based on the world of League of Legends, Arcane delves into the delicate balance between the wealthy city of Piltover and its shadowy and seedy side, Zaun. It is known throughout Runeterra as the “City of Progress” and many of the brightest minds call this twin city home. But Hextech’s invention, a method by which everyone can control magical energy, threatens this balance. Arcane not only sheds light on the backstories of League of Legends champions, but is designed in such a way that it stands out as a complex world filled with moral decisions, impressive animations, and exciting storylines.
Christian linke, Co-creator of Arcane:
“When we set out to produce Arcane, we knew we were up to something very special with the story of Jinx and Vi. We wanted to investigate the question of what would you do for your family, what values would you compromise, and what conflicts would you endure. The story, combined with the hand-painted art style and nuanced character animation that we developed in collaboration with SFortiche, will provide a complete insight into the world of League of Legends. “
Players will see some familiar faces in Arcane, such as Jinx, Vi, Jayce, and Caitlyn, and learn more about the events that made them the iconic champions as we know them today. You’ll also meet some new faces like Vander and Silco, both citizens of Zaun and who play an important role in shaping the developing world.
Alex Yee, Co-creator of Arcane:
“Arcane is a story of duality. How the characters are divided into two halves of a city, whose values and possibilities contradict but complement each other. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses. You may be the hero in your story, but the villain in someone else’s story.
Arcane champions are the ones that gamers have come to love in Riot Games games. They should feel very familiar, but there may be some differences as the champions have adapted to the series format. The series will explore the extremes to which the characters go when family and tradition conflict with their principles and beliefs. Their personal struggles affect the world in ways they never expected and shape the future of the Twin Cities.
