With the version 22H2 update, there still seem to be difficulties in combination with Nvidia driver 526.47 and earlier. A high load is constantly read in the Task Manager, which does not exist in reality. However, this does not cause any more problems and both Microsoft and Nvidia are already working on a fix. Read more about this below.
Microsoft has been rolling out the 2022 update build for Windows 11 for a few weeks now. This is the first major update to the company’s current operating system. So far the 22H2 release is relatively stable, but as always with such extensive software updates, there are some minor issues and annoyances. One of them refers to the Task Manager, which gives a simple overview of the programs and system resources that are currently running. However, the problem only occurs if an Nvidia graphics card is installed in the system.
Windows 11: KB5018496 provides quick access to Task Manager
Numerous users have shared the issue on Reddit and described it through Microsoft’s own feedback hub. After installing Windows 11 22H2 in combination with Nvidia driver version 526.47 or earlier, the GPU usage screen in Task Manager no longer works as it should. The problem is now known to Nvidia as well, and according to the company, a fix is already in the works.
All kinds of different Nvidia graphics cards with older driver versions seem to be affected. The task manager indicates that the GPU has a very high utilization, between more than 90 and 100 percent, as would be the case with games and 3D applications. At the same time, however, there are no apps that have caused the high load and the power consumption is and remains low. There also doesn’t seem to be any impact on games and other applications when they need the power of the GPU, so the issue has become less of an issue.
Apparently, it even appeared in the Insider Preview build for the first time and made its way into the final build. Affected users can safely ignore the incorrect advertisements and wait for a timely improvement. Both Microsoft and Nvidia are expected to release corresponding updates in November that should resolve the issue.
