Bitcoin (BTC) has skyrocketed in value in recent years and thus cryptocurrency mining has become increasingly popular. And where there is money to be made, there are always some opportunists who want to get their share. In Poland a very strange story has appeared. There, a miner was caught mining crypto with stolen electricity … at police headquarters!
Gazeta Wyborccza arrived today with a elements about this strange story. An IT specialist is said to have mined crypto at the Warsaw headquarters with electricity and police equipment there. In addition to the free energy, the miner would also have benefited from the good internet connection at the desktop.
The specialist was soon caught and immediately expelled. The police spokesman said in response:
“The device he used was not connected to any police database, and the case largely involves theft of electricity,”
It is unclear how much bitcoin or crypto the miner managed to mine. However, it is clear that these are steel balls. Illegal cryptocurrency mining operations are quite common, but at police headquarters it has probably never happened before!
Recently, the Malaysian police another waltz to destroy millions of dollars worth of crypto miners. These miners were seized as part of an illegal operation that also involved theft of electricity.
It also happens from time to time in Russia. Miners still steel in 2020 $ 6.6 million in electricity to mine bitcoins for free.
