Ever wondered why the face buttons on the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller don’t have the usual blue, red, green and pink colors? The X, Circle, Triangle, and Square buttons are synonymous with the PlayStation brand and have been on all Sony controllers from the beginning. Besides these famous shapes, the buttons always have their color code — of course up to the PS5.
So why are they all grayed out on the new controller? Yuto Morisawa, Senior Art Director of PlayStation, Interview with The Washington Post..
“Yes, except for special editions, we’ve always used those colors,” he told the publication. “On the PlayStation 5, we tried to eliminate what was already there. We wanted to simplify it and make it universal,” says Morisawa.
He said that the shape itself was “already [show] What happens to the buttons? ”And that color isn’t really needed, so it’s a PS5 one-note solution.
I love colored buttons, but at this point I’m used to seeing a simple gray version. On the PS5 pad, it’s almost white in itself and looks great on the outside. But who knows? Perhaps Sony will bring back color shapes when it introduces alternative color controllers in the future. Do you like solid color face buttons or do you want to keep the color?
