GeForce RTX 3060 Ti: Remastered with GDDR6X RAM

Apparently Nvidia allows graphics card manufacturers to upgrade the memory of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. Asus is the first manufacturer to list two models with GDDR6X instead of GDDR6 RAM on its website. The memory transfer rate increases by 36 percent from 14 gigabits per second per pin to 19 Gbps. This results in a total transmission speed of 608 instead of 448 Gbit/s.

Asus shows two TUF models of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X, which have not yet appeared in German retail. The website Videocardz claims to have seen benchmarks, according to which the new edition should be on average 7 to 10 percent faster than the GDDR6 version. However, how faster memory affects frame rate is case-by-case dependent – large game worlds with complex, high-resolution textures in particular should benefit.

With the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X, Nvidia and its partners are closing an already small gap between the RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6 and the RTX 3070. The latter only uses GDDR6 components, so it has a slower transfer rate than the GeForce RTX. 3060 Ti just released. GeForce RTX 3070 1024 additional shader cores, resulting in 24% more FP32 processing power. The fps difference in games is usually less than 24 percent.

Old graphics cards for the mainstream

The old RTX 3000 graphics cards should still be part of Nvidia’s middle class for the next few months. So far, the company has unveiled the 4000th generation GeForce RTX 4090; the GeForce RTX 4080 will follow on November 16. Cheaper models are not expected until next year.

Manufacturer cards for the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti are currently available from 470 euros. The GeForce RTX 3070 starts at just under 580 euros. At AMD you can get a Radeon RX 6700 XT, RX 6750 XT and RX 6800 at these prices. AMD will announce the 7000 generation on November 3.
