So test CHIP Gaming-Laptops
Gamer laptops must meet different requirements than normal laptops for work. That is why we have developed a completely new test procedure for these models while at the same time adapting the weighting of the individual rating categories to the requirements.
Yield (35%): By far the most important rating for gaming laptops is based on performance. We use current games like Forza Horizon 4, Forza Motorsport 7, Far Cry 5, Grand Theft Auto 5, Total War: Warhammer 2, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, as well as two classics, Alien Isolation and DiRT. Additionally, we run synthetic benchmarks like CineBench R15, the new 3DMark, and Unigine Superposition.
Display (25%): After performance, screen quality is the second most important rating in our ranking. Since all of our test candidates have a screen with Full HD resolution, the resolution does not play a decisive role in the evaluation and we can fully concentrate on the measurable characteristics of the screen. This includes values such as maximum brightness, color space coverage, contrast ratio, and viewing angle stability.
Team (20%): How big is the hard drive space? How many USB ports does the test device have? And what chips are built into the motherboard? Equipment is an important aspect of all notebooks, including gaming models. Here we record all relevant connections, modules, units and special features that are noticed in the test.
Ergonomics (15%): Many little things are included in the ergonomics classification. This includes, for example, the volume of the system at full load. But the quality of the keyboard and touchpad, the appearance of the device and the behavior of the screen hinge also fall into this category.
Mobility (5%): As already mentioned, mobility only plays a subordinate role in our ranking. On the one hand, because all devices have a very short battery life in game mode, and on the other hand, because they usually only develop their full potential when they are connected to the network. In this evaluation category, we delve into the dimensions of the notebook, evaluate the weight, and check the battery life.
