Frontier Foundry, the games imprint of Frontier Developments plc, today announces the release of FAR: Changing Tides. With FAR: Changing Tides, developer Okomotive is expanding the FAR universe, according to the associated press release. The game is available now for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and the Epic Store.
Back in 2018, Okomotive released the atmospheric indie adventure FAR: Lone Sails, at the time still in cooperation with publisher Mixtvision, which averages over 9,000 very positive reviews on Steam alone. While FAR: Lone Sails was about crossing a dry ocean, the new “Changing Tides” part is about a flooded landscape. Dubbed “Vehicle Adventure”, the game invites you to accompany a boy on his boat looking for a new home.

Today, Okimotive’s FAR universe expands with the release of FAR: Changing Tides. In the latest release from Frontier Foundry, players will traverse a flooded landscape on a meditative journey. The game is accompanied by a dynamic soundtrack, a painterly art style, and the added verticality provided by the immersive feature. As such, this post-apocalyptic adventure aims to provide an unforgettable experience for new players as well as those familiar with the critically acclaimed predecessor, ‘FAR: Lone Sails’.
On an abandoned ship, players will traverse a sunken world alongside Toe, a lonely boy who steers a ship above and below the waves. Toe has to solve puzzles, cross flooded civilizations, and brave the unforgiving elements of nature.
Don Schmocker, Principal Designer and Co-Founder of Okomotive, is pleased to present:
“What started as a college project with ‘FAR: Lone Sails’ grew into a studio with 10 employees, two games and over six years of wonderful memories at Okomotive. While our development journey with FAR: Changing Tides is over, we can’t wait to see how our players will experience their own journey in this wonderful world.”
A number of activities and partnerships were announced throughout the campaign to celebrate this unique and beautiful game. Highlights include a Amazing games made fast Charity Stream in cooperation with the San Francisco Monterey Bay Aquarium, narrated by ArtStation art tutorial and the release of Soundwave lo-fi soundtracks.
Chad Young, Senior Director of Publishing and Commercials, says:
“Okomotive’s passion for their craft and the amazing game experiences they’ve created are a perfect example of the Foundry’s goal: to help teams build the games we want to see. We gave the studio our support and their vision resulted in a beautiful and emotional game. That’s why we couldn’t be more proud of them.”
