Yesterday, Thursday night, Electronic Arts surprisingly announced the official name of the next part of the Dragon Age series! Until now, the planned sequel only ran under the name “Dragon Age 4”. Now we know that the great sequel to the role-playing game will be titled Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
In addition to the pure name, the associated logo can also be seen for the first time, which can be seen in the title image. There’s also bad news for all the optimists: the next Dragon Age won’t be released this year. In fact, we expected this in advance, but now those responsible have officially confirmed it.
What does the name tell us?
“Dreadwolf” is best translated into German as “dread wolf”. He will play the antagonist in Dragon Age 4, who, as we now know, doesn’t actually have a number in his name. The dire wolf is really just his nickname. The epithet of Solas. Solas is an ancient elven god, at least that’s what some say. The opposite has also been claimed about him, as per BioWare and EA’s upcoming game lore.
Dreadwolf will be a sequel to Dragon Age: Inquisition and will bring you closer to the story of Solas, the dire wolf. “His motives for him are inscrutable and his methods sometimes questionable, earning him a reputation as a trickster god, a player of dark and dangerous games,” read yesterday’s update. The developers first teased the return of the character, which fans of the franchise may already be familiar with, back in 2018.
More on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf later this year
Finally, BioWare and EA inform fans that they expect more information on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022. Although the RPG may no longer be released this year, the release is getting closer in the coming months.
Right now, Solas is in the process of “placing his characters on the field.” But we still have to figure out exactly what that means. Those responsible promise that more new information and reports about the next Dragon Age will be published in 2022.
