It means another 1,012 people tested positive on Saturday, August 15, 2020.

In the North West today (Sunday, August 16, 2020), there has been a total of 49,704​ confirmed cases since testing began, an increase of 205 since the last data update.

There are currently 138 people in the region’s hospitals who are being treated for COVID-19, including 18 on ventilation.

In order of Upper Tier Local Authorities (e.g. Lancashire County Council, Blackpool Council etc.) most affected (increase since Friday):

Lancashire – 7,686 (Up 30 from 7,656)

Manchester – 3,754 (Up 34 from 3,720)

Cumbria – 2,964 (Up 8 from 2,956)

Liverpool – 2,685 (Up 6 from 2,679)

Oldham – 2,581 (Up 14 from 2,567)

Cheshire East – 2,311 (Up 8 from 2,303)

Wigan – 2,242 (Up 4 from 2,238)

Bolton – 2,157 (Up 13 from 2,144)

Wirral – 2,098 (Up 2 from 2,096)

Cheshire West and Chester – 2,082 (Up 3 from 2,079)

Rochdale – 2,058 (Up 10 from 2,048)

Stockport – 1,897 (Up 6 from 1,891)

Tameside – 1,772 (Up 4 from 1,768)

Blackburn with Darwen – 1,669 (Up 12 from 1,657)
