The ACC said in a statement that Florida and Clemson would not play on Saturday as the team’s medical personnel could not mutually agree to proceed with the match.
The team was supposed to play at noon in Tallahassee, Florida.
One source told ESPN that a Clemson player tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday after practicing with the Tigers that week. As a result, Florida said it was uncomfortable to play Saturday’s match, sources said.
“I’m disappointed that I can’t play against Florida today,” tweeted Dan Radakovich of Clemson AD. “Clemson has followed all ACC protocols in preparation for this game and looks forward to returning to action against the pits for Senior Day and Military Thanksgiving next week.”
In a statement, the league stated that both teams continued to adhere to the minimum protocol outlined in the ACC Medical Advisory Group report.
“Our top priority is the health of student athletes. We thank the protocol introduced by FSU and ACC to ensure the health of everyone while enabling play this season,” said Florida State Coach. Mike Nobel said: statement. “I’m sorry I can’t play today, but I hope I can play against Clemson in December. Thank you for the support and coordination between our administration, Clemson and the ACC office. Our team is now Focus on hosting Virginia next week. “
Both Florida and Clemson were tested according to the rules of the meeting on Friday, as state teams in the ACC protocol need to be tested the day before the competition. These tests are conducted by an independent third party and the results are received early that day or the next day. Once these tests are taken, both schools will call the ACC to approve the comfort of the game. This is the standard before playing ACC games.
In this case, Florida and Clemson couldn’t agree to proceed with the game. Clemson traveled to Tallahassee with the full intention of playing the game.
Man, we were ready to play.
