Car News: Is the Five-Door Mini Still a Real Mini?

Date:

You ask yourself: hasn’t it been since 2001? Not at all. The mini hatchback with five doors and an extended body came out only in 2014. The number of mini doors was changed by the much earlier Clubman and the very popular Countryman crossover model. Green British Racing Green is a true classic. In the still extravagant interior of the car, decorative innovations and unique Mini-features have appeared. One of the most visible is this very English seat upholstery.

“No one should call the mini salon conservative, but the consistency is amazing,” says Normunds Avotiņš.

Twenty years ago, the Mini panel with a round center “clock” and weird switches instead of buttons was considered the cleanest avant-garde.

“But now look at today’s ‘regular’ car showrooms. For example, the new Golf. Basically, you have to learn how to use Volkswagen again. But the Mini is the same as 20 years ago.”

Good: the steering wheel, the electronic display behind, the automatic lever and the Apple Car Play interface on a larger and clearer screen are new.

“But basically all these aviation-style buttons, glasses, everything is exactly the same as 2001. That’s what I call attitude and trust in tradition. 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, automatic transmission, light weight and … a great start button. “

And, such a fantastic ride! At 136 horsepower, the Mini Cooper looks more like a city car, right? It already is, but it is surprising that an Oxford car is not allowed to cross on the motorway.

Especially if you activate this mode: Sport! And to draw there, not a checkered flag or some kind of explosion, but karting! So the five-door Mini hatchback is longer and more practical than the 3-door version and just as slick. I’m not going to fool you that the 5D hatchback has a lot of space in the rear, but it’s a bit more comfortable than the short Mini, ”Avotiņš turns.

By spending more time with this cute car, you may notice that the Mini has also thought of less sunny days. The suspension, despite the low-profile tires, tolerates all kinds of bumps respectable, while the wheel arches and sills are protected by unpainted plastic.
