Recent Android updates are usually fairly stable, but without patches it can be problematic and take some time. On Android 11, some users have noticed an issue where the game controller input is ignored by the system, but it’s still happening.
A Google Issue Tracke Support Threadr dates back to August 2020, just before the final release of Android 11. This issue simply indicates that Android is completely ignoring the input of the game controller, but it only occurs on Android 11 devices. So far, reports of this issue have occurred on multiple generations of Pixel smartphones, the Galaxy S20 FE, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and other devices, including some OnePlus models. This indicates that the issue is with Android 11 itself and is not affected or patched by OEM skins.
Obviously, this is a frustrating bug as it affects both locally running games and streaming options such as Stadia, GeForce Now, and Xbox Game Pass, which rely on Android gamepad support. In particular, this issue bypasses the connection to the Android device and does not affect the Stadia controller.
As people XDA Mentioned, Google acknowledged this issue before the final release of Android 11, but they haven’t issued a fix or provided an update yet. At this point, it’s unclear what the underlying problem is, but it doesn’t seem to affect all apps and users widely. In my experience, the Pixel 5 gamepad was fine.
One of the threads common to some users seems to be an app installed on a device that uses accessibility services such as a button remapper. Disabling such apps or trying other accessibility options may resolve the issue, at least temporarily.
