With “Bridgerton” he became a star. But “Dungeons & Dragons” should be a fundamental project for Regé-Jean Page. In an interview, he revealed why.
Paramount Pictures’ remake of “Dungeons & Dragons” comes at the right time: fantasy stories are more popular and in demand today than they have been for a long time. The success of series like “Game of Thrones”, “The Witcher” and films like “Maleficent” shows that there is an audience. And wants more.
But there is a lack of upcoming fantasy movies on the big screen, of all places. “The Green Knight” has just been announced. Those in charge of Paramount Pictures must have thought that there could be more: a new “Dungeons & Dragons”, for example. And how serious the team around the duo of directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley is is shown by the impressive cast: in addition to Chris Pine, Michelle Rodríguez, Hugh Grant, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis and Regé-Jean Page also participated. .

Page in particular is predestined for his role as a champion. And that’s despite the fact that he never played “Dungeons & Dragons” himself, neither the original role-playing game nor one of the countless adaptations. In an interview with, he revealed why he is still considered fit and equipped. Variety:
“I used to listen to some podcasts on ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ during my time. I have played many JRPGs (Japanese RPGs like ‘Final Fantasy’, editor’s note). When I was a teenager I would look ‘Diablo’ up and down, so I know what it means to play a paladin, that’s what I do. And I know to some extent what that implies. I watched my friends play Baldur’s Gate. So I’m kind of second-gen with ‘Dungeons & Dragoons.’
As soon as he was accepted, he let his friends, who are more familiar with the subject than he, instruct him in the vast universe. The preparation couldn’t be more entertaining: “I’m paying my mortgage fighting imaginary dragons,” says Page.

We already know that about “Dungeons & Dragons”
Not much is known about the plot of the next film at this time. But one thing is already for sure: set in the Forgotten Realms, the “Dungeons & Dragons” remake should go in the direction of “Guardians of the Galaxy” in terms of atmosphere. So Goldstein and Daley want to tell a lighthearted fantasy story. They have already gained experience with comedies, “Game Night” was a hit. The current German theatrical premiere is on March 2, 2023.
