The iPhone 13 is rumored to have a display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Cupertino company has just presented a new patent with the relevant US authorities regarding an iPhone display with a high refresh mode. This could double, triple, and even quadruple the display’s native refresh rate. The latter could easily go from 60 Hz to 120, 180 or even 240 Hz without worry.
As a reminder, a screen refresh rate is how often the screen updates its display. The higher the rate, the smoother the content displayed. For now, the refresh rate of the iPhone is 60 Hz, while the trend among other manufacturers is rather 90 or 120 Hz.
Rumor has it, Apple might finally go for a higher rate with the iPhone 13. Apple’s next flagship might have. of ProMotion technology which would allow it to be displayed with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.
The new presentation suggests, in any case, that the topic is being actively studied within Apple teams. This reinforces the rumor that the iPhone 13 benefits from a higher refresh rate.
The fact that the US firm has not yet passed the 90 Hz or 120 Hz mark could be linked to the fact that these frequencies consume more energy and therefore drain the battery of phones more quickly. But according to rumor, Apple would manage to overcome this problem thanks to the LTPO display technology that consumes less power and still offers a high refresh rate.
The integration of displays with high refresh rates could be beneficial to consumers on several levels. With normal use, the experience will be smoother, although this may not be visible to inexperienced eyes. This would be especially beneficial for mobile games and augmented reality. It remains to be seen when iPhones will have a higher refresh rate.
