The launch of the Intel LGA1700 platform did not go unnoticed by the “red” chipmaker. AMD will launch Zen 3 desktop processors with higher L3 cache in early 2022. These CPUs should force the fight against high-end 12th gen Core chips (Alder Lake-S).
According to the new leaks, AMD is also planning to launch the Renoir-X family – low-cost socket AM4 processors intended to compete with Intel’s Core i3. They will use the same given as the Renoir hybrid chips (Zen 2 architecture), but the integrated video core will go under the knife.
It is difficult to say what exactly prompted Lisa Su’s team to launch new processor models with the Zen 2 architecture. It is quite possible that AMD has accumulated impressive reserves of Renoir crystals, unsuitable for use in hybrid chips due to a faulty video core. . By the way, not long ago, the chipmaker released the 4700S Desktop Kit platform based on the PlayStation 5 processor with graphics disabled.
In terms of technical characteristics, the AMD Renoir-X chips will differ slightly from the previously released Ryzen 4000G. This means that they will receive a maximum of eight Zen 2 cores, eight megabytes of L3 action, and a dual-channel DDR4-3200 controller. There will be no representatives of the Ryzen 7 series in this family.
It should be added that the AMD AM5 platform should become a complete answer to the Intel LGA1700. It will debut roughly in the third quarter of 2022 alongside the first CPUs based on the Zen 4 architecture.
