AMD has released an exclusive graphics driver for Windows 7, which is intended in particular to fix problems with AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT (test) and other “graphics products” from the manufacturer. Improved RDNA and RDNA 2 GPU performance metric logging and synchronization continue to cause issues.
Graphics driver for Windows 7 and RDNA 2
While the AMD graphics driver for Windows 10 and Windows 11 is still available in version 22.5.2, Windows 7 is already getting an updated version added, especially regarding hardware support. In the past, RDNA 2 graphics cards like the Radeon RX 6900 XT could not be installed at all. AMD Adrenalin 22.6.1 WHQL now provides a remedy.
Windows 7 hasn’t been supported by Microsoft since January 14, 2020, but customers of the Extended Security Updates (ESU) variant won’t experience the same fate until January 10, 2023.
In addition to the AMD Adrenalin 22.6.1 WQHL standard, which can also be found in the download area of ComputerBase, AMD is also releasing an adapted version for the two entry-level graphics cards AMD Radeon RX 6400 and AMD Radeon RX 6500 (test) based on the smallest Navi 24 RDNA 2 GPU.
Separate graphics driver for Navi 24
Unlike the normal Windows 7 driver, the new Navi-24 graphics driver is not finished WHQL certified and offered separately for download:
