Update 4.30pm: In a statement to Eurogamer, Amazon acknowledged a wide range of PlayStation 5 delivery issues and promised to “correctly respond” to all customers it contacts.
An Amazon spokeswoman said, “We all aim to satisfy our customers, but not in a small percentage of these orders.” “Sorry, we are investigating exactly what happened. We contacted all customers who had problems and notified them to resolve the problem. If you have any problems with your order, please contact us. Please, the customer service team is asking for help. “
Some of the customers we talked to were asked to wait 48 hours to make sure the delivery wasn’t sudden yet, but others were offered a £ 5 gift voucher. It was.
Original story 2:30 pm: Imagine securing your PlayStation 5 on a launch date, waiting for the console to arrive, then opening the box … and finding a kitchen appliance instead. Or cat food. Or, even though the order is marked as complete, nothing is delivered.
This has happened to many Amazon UK customers in the last 24 hours, people are trying to get a refund, and PS5 inventory is severely limited, so it’s time to find the console again. It is
The first sporadic reports that the wrong item was delivered initially seemed very unlikely to be true, but continued to appear until late last night before the problem began to explode more widely than today. I did. In addition, within Eurogamer, I was contacted by friends and colleagues who were personally affected.
The wrong items in each box are different, but the accounts are similar. An Amazon box with clear tape instead of the company’s regular brand sticker after delivery is delayed.

so, @AmazonUK Someone seems to have stolen my PS5 (one day late). Right outer box, wrong item. Where can I get help? @AmazonHelp @PlayStationUK pic.twitter.com/qBIZ3RHl1I

Happy # PS5 Everyone’s day. We tried to document our announcement, but Amazon instead tricked us with a one-sided air fryer (after giving the delivery password). Did anyone else have this problem today? pic.twitter.com/99IUSzSJUU

Exactly the same thing happened to me, I got the George Foreman Grill!
At some point the box also seemed to be opened.
I made a reservation two months ago, but I can’t get a replacement because it’s out of stock anywhere in the UK! pic.twitter.com/Cmg3BzVhvg— Sam Felts (@Sam_Felts) November 20, 2020

Is it standard to use cellophane tape and Amazon branded tape? This is why it looks dangerous like hell pic.twitter.com/tebPK4lSV6

Some people reported that the courier van was pulled out and zoomed out, as if recording a delivery at a particular location. This is an example of a complaint about this from someone who still has a console-reportedly only after facing the delivery driver and further ahead:
@AmazonUK @amazonhelp The courier marked my delivery as a failure. He went behind a van outside my house and went down the road 20 feet for the next delivery. I went outside and had him pull the box out from behind and found the next tampering. The QR code was mashed and the box was opened. pic.twitter.com/eeSl8rPMzl

This morning I spoke with Amazon customer Jamie Al-Kadhimi. He showed me how he and his brother bought a PS5 console and organized it to send both to his home. Because it wasn’t my brother’s usual delivery location, Amazon provided a unique code that allowed him to see the delivery address directly. Jamie’s orders were not eligible for this, as they were for his own home.
Jamie told me he was tracking a courier carrying both consoles, but when the van arrived, only his brother’s console was handed over. (For deliveries using a unique code, the courier must enter this in order for the courier to record the item as delivered.) The courier tried to return the brother’s console to the warehouse. The box was slightly damaged and I was able to receive another code. 1. Jamie’s brother refused.
For Jamie, who thought the driver would come back from his van with his console … he’s still waiting. The courier ran away by car and never returned.
Will Judd, a senior staff writer at Digital Foundry, had a similar problem. Orders from the game were recorded as being delivered to neighbors, but Yodel’s delivery driver never stopped there and drove again, he says.
# MissingPS5 wrap up:
1. At 4:30 pm, @GAMEdigital PS5 was delivered to my neighbor even though I was there
2. Neighbor says @YodelOnline The courier talked to them and they agreed to receive the parcel for me, and the courier left with the PS5 (?!) And never returned. pic.twitter.com/4CU9a4HGOp— What about Judd ?? (@wsjudd) November 20, 2020
I talked to another customer today, albeit from Amazon, who has similar experience to Will. Both he and his friends were waiting for the PS5 console in their local area and were tracking their courier vans. Both noticed that the Amazon van had been pulled out and saw the console marked as delivered, with no actual delivery attempted.
Of course, the vast majority of people will have successfully received a PS5 order from Amazon yesterday-Sony has yet to reveal the exact number of consoles that have shifted to the first day in the UK. Many retailers GAME postpones sale of remaining inventory yesterday morning, and After accidentally receiving an order too early, Currys must stop selling in-house altogether..
Still, it’s still unclear how Amazon can handle the issues reported in the last 24 hours. Eurogamer is asking retail giants for comment.
