Security researchers found a bug in Windows 10 that would damage the hard drive simply by opening a folder or clicking a link.
The first vulnerability was reported by a Twitter user. Jonas L. He noted that this happens “when you open a special name in any folder”.

CERT / CC vulnerability analyst Will Dormann subsequently verified the bug and additionalwhich occurs when you open a file or folder link including ISO, VHD, or VHDX, unzip a Zip file, open an HTML file without MoTW, etc.
This can be especially annoying if the code is embedded in a legitimate program link.
The error will automatically corrupt the NTFS MFT (Master File Table). Sometimes Windows will ask you to restart your computer so it can repair your hard drive. But Dormann says that this is not always the case, sometimes users will have to do a manual repair.
Microsoft is aware of the problem and reported that he is already fixing it. In the meantime, users can turn to professional IT services or try fixing their Windows issues with special software. For instance, programs like Outbyte PC Repair give their users access to IT helpdesk that can resolve many issues including Windows update-related ones
“We are aware of this issue and will provide an update in a future release. The use of this technique is based on social engineering and as always we encourage our customers to practice good online habits, including caution when opening or accepting. unknown files ”.
Dormann remains pessimistic about the amendment tabled by Microsoft, saying that two years ago reported about a similar NTFS bug that has yet to be fixed. He said he would not yet reveal the specific name of the case. You want to give Microsoft a chance to fix the problem first.
