In Ukraine, they want to introduce the sale of SIM cards with passports. This increase in the identification of mobile communication users is proposed in a bill, which the Commission on Digital Transformation Issues has submitted for discussion.
About it reported Committee on the website of the Verkhovna Rada. It should be noted that the document was developed by a working group for the production of gray imports.
According to the authors of the bill, the identification of subscribers will strengthen the protection of personal data and protect them from fraudulent schemes.
In the explanatory note, the authors of the paper noted that along with the growth in the number of Internet banking users and the popularity of online shopping, the risks of fraud are also increasing.
“As a result of the theft of phones, in whose memory personal data were entered, unpleasant situations arise with bank accounts,” says the message.
If this bill is passed, SIM card owners will have to go through identification. At the same time, the authors of the document pointed out that now the vast majority of subscriber numbers are “tied” to specific people through banking services. Therefore, registration with electronic communications service providers will only be a formality.
As reported OBOZREVATEL, Deputies of the Servant of the People faction planned innovations in the field of mobile communications, including mandatory registration of operators’ subscribers and blocking of “gray” smartphones using the IMEI code. In addition, the people’s deputies want to introduce criminal liability for the importation into Ukraine and the sale of “gray” smartphones.
