Nvidia gives an unsatisfactory update

Nvidia informed the Kitguru website with an update on the melted RTX 4090 power sockets. However, the statement does nothing to end the general guesswork.

It’s still a first class curiosity: For weeks now, isolated users have been reporting that their 12VHWPR is melting when used with a Geforce RTX 4090. And now there are a similar number of attempts to interpret what is causing the problem. Only Nvidia could take the guesswork out, but there’s still a long way to go.

That’s what Nvidia says in the update.

Opposite of Kitguru website Nvidia announces that there are no details about the connector drama yet. The following statement was issued: “We are investigating the reports, but cannot provide further details yet. Nvidia and its partners are committed to supporting our customers and ensuring a speedy RMA process,” the text reads. That leaves room for speculation. Either Nvidia doesn’t have enough cases in their lab or there isn’t a single reason why some 12VHWPR sockets melt.

Recently there was also a case with a Founders Edition (and not only with custom designs) and even the connector for a native ATX 3.0 power supply should be affected. Given that the 16GB RTX 4080 will go on sale tomorrow Wednesday, possibly with the same issue (though perhaps smaller as it consumes less power), some clarification is needed: the list on Reddit is getting longer. Buyers of such expensive graphics cards shouldn’t have the prospect of their graphics card getting damaged and having to initiate an RMA process.

The PCGH already dealt with the issue two weeks ago and also yours Practical tests with the 12VHPWR connector presents Recently, the theory also emerged that some users the plug not engaging deep enough. However, this doesn’t seem to be the only source of error, as we report on the weekend. It can be assumed that ultimately Nvidia will have to fix several potential issues; at least now it is known that that there are two manufacturers of adapters. If there really was only one cause for fusion plugs, it would have been found by now.
