In addition to announcing the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT, AMD has also been talking a lot about upsampling FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). FSR 2.1 is currently available, but AMD has announced FSR 3.0 for the next year 2023.
Doubled FPS at peak
Although at the moment there are only a few details about the new technology, according to AMD, FSR 3.0 should significantly improve performance compared to FSR 2.x. There should be a doubled maximum frame rate, under the name “Fluid Motion Frame Technology” it runs FSR 3.0.
The technology sounds exactly like Nvidia’s DLSS 3.0 with Frame Generation, which would fit the name and the increased performance, but that’s just editorial speculation. It’s certainly no coincidence that RDNA 3 has AI units for the first time; if it makes sense, AMD will also use them to upsample. It is currently not yet clear if FSR 3.0 will also run on non-RDNA 3 graphics cards.
ComputerBase received the FSR 3.0 information in advance under AMD’s NDA. The only requirement was the earliest possible publication date. The manufacturer had no influence on the report and there was no obligation to publish it.
