Just in time for Halloween, “Resident Evil” is back. Developer Capcom will release the “Village” Gold Edition today, Friday, the eighth installment in the series. The game, which was released over a year ago, is one of the violent surprises where the faint of heart panics after the first few minutes. So if your nerves are on edge and you haven’t tried to save your daughter from a world full of zombies, vampires, and werewolves like Ethan Winter, now’s your chance to do so. The special edition has some expansions like new characters, but mostly the “Shadows of Rose” story. Not wanting to give away too much: this takes place 16 years after the horrific events in the Eastern European town that gave it its name. In contrast to the main game, weapons are used less, but there is a greater focus on hide and run.
In addition to the previous first-person perspective, the new edition also offers the option to play everything from the third person, so to speak, looking over Ethan’s shoulder. Anyone who already owns “Resident Evil: Village” has the option to purchase just the “Winter’s Expansion” for just under $20. The total “Gold Edition” package amounts to 50 euros.(awm)
