Today is my second test monitor which I use for my articles on DLSS/FSR etc. UHD gaming is becoming more and more popular and you need a monitor that can display this resolution natively. LG fortunately supported me here and made the LG UltraGear 27GN950 available to me. The LG 27GN950 is from 2020 and had an RRP of 899 euros. In the meantime, there is already a successor, which I will refer to here and there. Today’s bodily delight is the LG 27GN950. It should be on the list if you’re thinking of buying a UHD gaming monitor.
The monitor comes from LG Electronics and the panel comes from LG Display. This is a Nano IPS panel with a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160p and RGB sub-pixel layout. LG lowered the PVP to 599 euros, which sounds much better. Now the monitor just has to prove its suitability for gaming. Hoping you can also use the LG 27GN950 to work in sRGB and P3 color space. But first things first… I was given my test sample with over 1500 hours of operation on the panel, so to speak. God knows who was allowed to vent.
But it doesn’t matter, because then I can show you what this monitor can do in the long run. You can compare that with other tests from 2020/2021, it’s definitely interesting. The essential features of the equipment are available in the usual overview: There are more on the LG website (click here)
So collect for a moment. Should the screen have true 10-bit color depth? I’m not so sure about that and say the display uses 8 bit + FRC. It does not matter if it is 10 bits or 8 bits + FRC, it does not get fat. If you want to use 144Hz in UHD, you must have a GPU that supports DP 1.4 with DSC. Otherwise, sadly 144Hz or 160Hz won’t work. Yes, you read that right: the LG 27GN950 can also do 160Hz, with overclocking enabled. But only from firmware higher than v3.03, 5.57. I will return to this topic at the end. grrrr…
Since I don’t have a Da Vinci code crack for the LG 27GN950, we’ll leave it out today. Also, I don’t have a PDF from the manufacturer to show you more specs. So today just a picture of LG home page:
On paper, the monitor has a lot going for it. Then we will see what will come true in the end. We start with the external printing, the cables and the fuss. One more page please…
