The Broadcasting Council is discussing a retirement and termination of Schlesinger’s employment. Meanwhile, new accusations have been added against the 61-year-old.

An important week approaches in the matter of the resigned head of ARD and RBB, Patricia Schlesinger. In view of the still unresolved accusations against the 61-year-old, the broadcasting council of the public broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg will meet in Berlin on Monday (4 p.m.) to discuss the termination of the contract. The agency can remove an artistic director by state treaty.

The question is whether there will be a dismissal without notice, as demanded by state politicians and the German Association of Journalists, and what about possible severance pay. Erik Stohn, a member of the Broadcasting Council and state politician of the Brandenburg SPD, told the German Press Agency that he had clear expectations that the committee would take steps to immediately remove Schlesinger without severance pay.

After a possible dismissal by the Broadcasting Council on Monday – “Bild” first advanced a corresponding draft resolution for the meeting – the next step would be for the Board of Directors to take action and complete the termination of the service contract. Specific modalities and issues such as severance pay or pension rights are also dealt with there. There is no known time horizon for the possible second step of the board of directors.

Tuesday (10:00 a.m.) for Schlesinger intervened in the management of the head of the station Hagen Brandstätter (managing director) to answer questions from the Brandenburg state parliament about the Schlesinger case. It is the second week since her resignation as director of RBB. In July, Schlesinger and committee representatives turned down an invitation from the state parliament, sparking outrage. Brandenburg is currently under the legal supervision of the RBB.

Schlesinger faces numerous accusations of nepotism. She denied the accusations. The Public Ministry is investigating, and there is also an external investigation by a law firm. The results are not yet available.

In addition to the 61-year-old, the focus is on chief controller Wolf-Dieter Wolf of ARD broadcaster RBB, who has also resigned. He also denied the accusations. Furthermore, it concerns questionable orders for Schlesinger’s husband and former “Spiegel” journalist Gerhard Spörl at Messe Berlin, where the chief controller was also head of the supervisory board until his resignation there.

The whole case deals with details such as controversial consultancy contracts for an RBB construction project, an expensive company car for Schlesinger, dinners with guests in his private apartment at the expense of RBB with allegedly false invoices, a steep salary increase to 303,000 euros plus a bonus system. , which the broadcaster has kept secret until now. Schlesinger’s trip to London was also questioned. (dpa)
