Munich – The cute grandmothers immediately won the hearts of the lions: now the Munich company “Kuchentratsch” is bankrupt.
Founders Katharina Meyer (33) and Anna Bründermann (37) got off to a great start in 2018 on the hit show “Die Höhle der Löwen” (Vox). Carsten Maschmeyer (63) and Dagmar Wöhrl (68) invested 100,000 euros four years ago for 10 percent of the shares.
The idea behind it: 35 grandmothers and grandfathers stand in a Munich bakery and bake cakes, create new recipes and gossip at the same time. This helps against loneliness in old age, and retirees can also earn something extra.
Then the grandparents delivered the cakes in Munich or sent them. By the way, all Ü65 employees in “Kuchentratsch” were called “grandmother” or “grandfather”, regardless of whether they actually had grandchildren.

Maschmeyer was enthusiastic, saying, “The model of giving older people the feeling that they’re having fun, that they’re having fun, I’m sure they live happier and longer.”
Dagmar Wöhrl was also impressed: “I think you are happy when you see that what you can do as an older person is recognized.”

But apparently the idea wasn’t so bright after all, managing director Katharina Mayer now had to announce insolvency. She put the reasons for the failure as follows:

Cake chatter GmbH had planned a collective investment campaign this year to close the financial gap for the planned investments (especially for the 650 square meter adventure bakery expansion). Unfortunately, the campaign was not as successful as expected and not enough money could be raised.
The previous shareholders were unwilling to close this gap in the current situation and unfortunately no agreement could be reached between the potential investor, who had a vested interest in closing the financing gap, and the previous shareholders.
The bankruptcy petition was filed the day before yesterday by our attorney. Our nearly 80 cake gossip employees are in the know.”

On the social media platform “Linkedin”, Mayer revealed what she really looks like after bankruptcy: “My heart is broken,” the 33-year-old wrote.
