Former GDR captain dies at 77: Bernd Bransch, faithful club resident in Halle – Sport

The former captain of the GDR nationwide soccer team, Bernd Bransch, died on Saturday at the age of 77 soon after a extended disease, his former club Hallescher FC realized from his loved ones.

Bransch wore the nationwide group jersey 72 times and was Olympic champion with the staff in 1976 and third in the 1972 Olympics. In the only World Cup overall look for a GDR team, Bransch captained the crew in 1974 in the Republic Federal.

After Hans-Jürgen Dörner and Joachim Streich, Bransch is the third distinguished East German footballer to die this year.

It is up to all of us to cherish the memory of our honorary member, one of the most significant personalities of the club and the most essential ambassador of the town of Halle, and carry on his legacy,” claimed HFC President Jens Rauschenbach.
