Does everyone have a current Playsi now? Probably not, judging by Sony’s current sales figures. Around two million copies were sold in the last quarter, which could still indicate supply problems. A total of 19.3 million units were sold. That’s a significant drop from the same quarter last year, when 3.3 million devices were sold. However, the company was able to increase game sales: 70.5 million PS4/PS5 titles were sold, compared to 61.4 million a year ago, including 14.5 million of its own games compared to 7.9 million in the third quarter.
Overall, the Game & Network Services (GSN) division generated 665 billion yen ($5.1 billion) in the quarter, up slightly from a year earlier. Revenue for the full year of 2021 was flat, just 2 percent higher than in 2020, and earnings were also unchanged.
These figures mean that the PS5 is falling even further behind the PS4 in terms of sales and has now sold 3.1 million fewer units than the PS4 at the same time. The good news is that Sony expects the delivery situation to improve quickly. The company forecasts a 34 percent rise in revenue to 929 billion yen ($7.13 billion) for the coming quarter, driven by better parts supply and higher third-party game sales. Also in June, Sony will introduce PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, the equivalent of Xbox Game Pass. That could give the company another boost.
