In our blind camera test, we show you various motifs, each photographed with different smartphones. You voted which photo you like best without knowing which photo was taken from which mobile phone. Here is the result at a glance:
We have calculated the winners for you in two different ways: once using the points system (first place gets five points, second place two, …) and once by accumulating all the votes. While the distances between the candidates vary depending on the calculation method, the order is the same: Google Pixel 6 Pro comes out on top with a decent lead.
To encourage you to take a look at the following images and the individual results, here you can find the blind test participants and their camera crew at a glance:

Just a reminder: the Google Pixel 6 Pro we already had in ours last blind camera test in November 2021 – and had to admit defeat to the iPhone 13 Pro at the time. In the end, only 17 votes made a difference. But apparently, Google’s software updates have paid off in recent weeks and months.
Below you will find our reasons and photo series from the blind test of the original camera. In the captions, we finally tell you which photo comes from which smartphone.
Scene 1: Daylight, main camera
Our blind test started with the supposedly simplest exercise: daylight and the main camera. Here, the iPhone 13 Pro was able to impose itself on Xiaomi and Oppo. Here it is noted that many smartphones offer cooler recordings, while Apple uses a slightly warmer tone.
- 1st place: iPhone 13 Pro
- 2nd place: Xiaomi 12 Pro
- 3rd place: Oppo Find X5 Pro
Scene 2: Daylight, 3.3x zoom
As rarely as the sun’s rays over the past week, the OnePlus 10 Pro came out on top in our blind test. But they both worked here. However, the differences between the recordings are relatively small and therefore the result was quite similar.
- 1st place: OnePlus 10 Pro
- 2nd place: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
- 3rd place: Xiaomi 12 Pro
Reason 3: Daylight, 5x zoom
The iPhone 13 Pro by no means has the best prerequisites for telephoto zoom tasks, but it does surprisingly do better here. The following places are followed by the Pixel 6 Pro and the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which would have expected before Apple, you too?
- 1st place: iPhone 13 Pro
- 2nd place: Google Pixel 6 Pro
- 3rd place: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
Motive 4: “Daylight”, 10x zoom
Finally, the ten times zoom puts Samsung completely on the cards. Finally, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 10x telephoto lens on board, which can take photos here at native resolution. Surprisingly, though, the iPhone 13 Pro is at the forefront here too, even ahead of the Pixel 6 Pro, which, on paper at least, has significantly better zoom capabilities.
- 1st place: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
- 2nd place: iPhone 13 Pro
- 3rd place: Google Pixel 6 Pro
Scene 5: daylight, ultra wide angle
In our fifth motif, the iPhone photo also stands out again. It’s a bit warmer than most of its competitors’ images and, more importantly, the image of the building in the flesh is significantly brighter. I like it, and obviously you too!
- 1st place: iPhone 13 Pro
- 2nd place: Xiaomi 12 Pro
- 3rd place: Oppo Find X5 Pro
Reason 6: daylight, maximum resolution
Much help much? Not necessarily! The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra offers the highest resolution on paper. In practice, however, the 50-megapixel sensors from Oppo and OnePlus have convinced you more in terms of detail reproduction.
- 1st place: Oppo Find X5 Pro
- 2nd place: OnePlus 10 Pro
- 3rd place: Xiaomi 12 Pro
Reason 7: interior, main camera
The iPhone works best for our first subject in poor lighting conditions. The differences between the various smartphones can be seen here, for example in the reproduction of details in the dark areas of the image, such as the stones around the tracks.
- 1st place: iPhone 13 Pro
- 2nd place: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
- 3rd place: Oppo Find X5 Pro
Reason 8: Indoor shot, 2x zoom
Our next reason was an endurance test for the participants. The only light here came from a pair of very warm incandescent bulbs hidden behind one corner of the wall. The Pixel 6 Pro managed to get the most neutral white balance here, and was voted first by a clear margin.
- 1st place: Google Pixel 6 Pro
- 2nd place: Apple iPhone 13 Pro
- 3rd place: OnePlus 10 Pro
Scene 9: Indoor shot, ultra wide angle
The Pixel 6 Pro is once again ahead in the following reason. Google just learned white balance under artificial light and delivered one of the most neutral results here. Also, the cone of light from the lamp on the ceiling is not reduced to a pale glow by an overzealous HDR mode.
- 1st place: Google Pixel 6 Pro
- 2nd place: Oppo Find X5 Pro
- 3rd place: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
Reason 10: night, main camera
The reason for the evening came as a surprise to me: the Xiaomi 12 Pro was able to clearly assert itself here. While the iPhone 13 Pro clearly dominated night photos in our latest blind test, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Find X5 Pro, and Pixel 6 Pro now pass as well.
- 1st place: Xiaomi 12 Pro
- 2nd place: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
- 3rd place: Oppo Find X5 Pro
Reason 11: Night, 3x zoom
In this twilight scene, shot at triple zoom, Apple and Samsung are back at the forefront. The challenge here was capturing the high contrast between the light panels and the environment in low light conditions.
- 1st place: Apple iPhone 13 Pro
- 2nd place: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
- 3rd place: Google Pixel 6 Pro
Scene 12: Night, ultra wide angle
Three times light, three times darkness. The lighting conditions for subject 12 were identical to subject 10, but we shot with the ultra wide instead of the main camera. The Google Pixel 6 Pro was able to assert itself here by a large margin.
- 1st place: Google Pixel 6 Pro
- 2nd place: Apple iPhone 13 Pro
- 3rd place: Oppo Find X5 Pro
Motive 13: portrait, daylight
After sport: my wrinkled face was not really an easy task for the portrait modes here. You liked the neutral look of the Pixel 6 Pro best here, followed by Oppo and Xiaomi. I find it exciting how differently different smartphones separate the foreground and background from each other.
- 1st place: Google Pixel 6 Pro
- 2nd place: Oppo Find X5 Pro
- 3rd place: Xiaomi 12 Pro
Reason 14: Selfie, artificial light
For selfies under unpleasant artificial light (same lighting as Motiv 8, by the way, only closer), he chose the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro for the top two spots. And then nothing comes for a long time. The two smartphones create by far the most neutral reproduction – the iPhone 13 Pro, on the other hand, apparently drank self-tanner. It is true that the light bulbs are really very warm.
- 1st place: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
- 2nd place: Google Pixel 6 Pro
- 3rd place: OnePlus 10 Pro
Reason 15: selfie, bokeh
The last reason was about selfies with a bokeh effect, and here the OnePlus 10 Pro was able to celebrate one of its rare victories. At 38 percent, the smartphone got almost twice as many votes as the Find X5 Pro in second place.
- 1st place: OnePlus 10 Pro
- 2nd place: Oppo Find X5 Pro
- 3rd place: Xiaomi 12 Pro
