The content of the new PlayStation Plus model includes, among other things, a software library whose games can be downloaded and played at no additional cost. As promised by Sony Interactive Entertainment, this will be supported by all known publishers.
After the rumors of the last few months, the revised version of PlayStation Plus was officially announced on Tuesday.
As several internal sources have already confirmed, the new service consists of a total of three levels with individual prices and content. Both tiers of PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium get a software library with hundreds of first-party and third-party games that can be downloaded and played at no additional cost. At least while your subscription is active.
As part of today’s announcement, Sony Interactive Entertainment noted that the software library in question can be used to its fullest, as all known publishers are on board. Time will tell what all this means in practice.
No proper titles at launch
There is a question mark behind older games from publishers like Bethesda Softworks or Activision Blizzard, which either already belong to Xbox Game Studios or have been taken over and are currently in the process of being acquired. Whether games like “Ghostwire: Tokyo,” “Deathloop,” or the various “Call of Duty” titles will make it to the PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium software library remains to be seen.

However, what is already certain is that Sony Interactive Entertainment will support the software library with its own internal productions. However, as made clear in today’s announcement, first-party titles will not be available at launch, but rather some time after launch on PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium.
According to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, those responsible for Sony Interactive Entertainment internally take the position that exclusive productions from their own studios could suffer a day one release on PlayStation Plus. At least that’s a current assessment of things, which Ryan says could change in the long run.
