A change is coming to Windows 11 that many users will not like. In the future, the operating system will request credit card information during installation.
With a new trial version of Windows 11, the installation of the operating system requires providing credit card information, such as “Fudzilla” reported. This is Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22567.
This shouldn’t change much for many users as they have already stored this information to purchase content from the Microsoft Store. Basically, Microsoft sees the credit card information as part of the recently added Microsoft 365 subscription. If there are issues with an expired card, Microsoft will notify the user about it.
Innovation in Windows 11: Microsoft follows the competition
Microsoft follows the competition with this decision. For example, iOS cannot be used without a credit card. The philosophy behind the credit card requirement should be this: For Microsoft, the ability to make purchases on PC is just as important as work or gaming.
More content is coming with the new test build. Among other things, there’s a feature called Smart App Control that monitors and blocks new apps if they’re found to be dangerous. These innovations should be of great help to many users. However, it also harbors the risk of harmless programs being leaked, especially those from smaller developers.
