Elden Ring PC: Only 60% Approval on Steam

Date:

Original article: From Software certainly had different ideas. After the game received many high ratings, very often even a 10 out of 10, people thought that the PC release could not go wrong. But far from that.

Elden Ring: Bombing Review on Steam

If you look at the current user ratings on Steam, at the time of this news there are over 14,000 user reviews in the books with 60 percent (“balanced”) approval. That doesn’t add up at all with the Twitter account still last night had posted: 20x 10 out of 10 as a rating, so it should also be possible for PC gamers to be reasonably satisfied. But they are not, which is why the term review bombing can already be used.

If you look at the feedback on Steam, there is a wild mix of technical “issues”. The 60fps framelock is mentioned once, but it was already known beforehand. The lack of widescreen support also occurs several times. Although one for Elden Ring before the release of patch 1.02 posted, which is meant to help against stuttering, among other things, micro stuttering and frame drops are mentioned in the comments. The use of Easy Anti-Cheat is also criticized, with users reporting “telemetry to Epic, Amazon, and From Software itself.”

But that is not all. Overnight, rumors circulated that Valve would remove user reviews from Elden Ring. The initial post on the Reddit thread has since been deleted because the reviews were apparently reactivated. Steam is said to have had server issues, according to some users. But at the time of this news there is one corresponding thread on Steam, which also deals with supposedly removed reviews. It is noteworthy that most of the comments on this are not visible, but are provided with the following note.

“This comment has not yet been analyzed by our automatic content checker. It will remain temporarily hidden until the review is complete and it is confirmed that it does not contain any malicious content (for example, links to information-stealing websites).”

It stands to reason that Valve’s anti-review bombing technology could be behind this. Valve always steps in when “a large number of users rate a game for a reason other than the actual purpose of the reviews: to make a recommendation.” Whether in Elden Ring is really the case remains to be seen.

Elden Ring: Big Hit on Steam

To update: More than 22,000 Steam players have already left a rating, and approval is still a manageable 59 percent. Discussions on the Steam forum are full of complaints about technology. That doesn’t seem to hurt success on Steam. This morning, Elden Ring was the #1 most played game, even ahead of Counter-Strike GO, Lost Ark, or Dota 2. more than 760,000 players playing at the same time, which is a multiple of Dark Souls 3 (approx. 130,000) or Sekiro (approx. 125,000).
