What to do to keep your desktop laptop safe

Date:

We talk about keeping smartphones safe. Hackers don’t just look at your smartphone. You can also keep an eye on your desktop or laptop. So you have to be careful. Also, following a few tips can protect your desktop and laptop.

The suggestions were made by the software giant Microsoft itself. If you want to keep your desktop or laptop safe, know what to do.

> Put a firewall on the PC. But now the Windows operating system comes with a firewall. It even turns on automatically. If you want, you can also use a separate third-party firewall.

> Keep your PC up to date at all times. Activate automatic updates for Microsoft Office and other Microsoft applications on your desktop or laptop. Automatic updates should be turned on, especially for browsers, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and other applications that you use regularly.

> Use antivirus software. If you have the latest Windows operating system update. In that case, you already have the Windows security feature or Windows Defender Security Center installed.

> After a few days, make sure your passwords are safe. There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a password. For example, keep in mind that someone else might guess your password. Additionally, Microsoft has suggested that you should ensure the use of lowercase letters, uppercase letters, and numbers in passwords.

> Always be careful with attachments. Do not open suspicious attachments found in email or any message service. Be careful not to click on unusual links in messages or emails. Not only emails or messengers, but also tweets, social media posts, online advertisements, or messages from known and trusted sources can contain malicious links.

> Be careful when using web browsers. Do not visit sites that offer potentially illegal content. There are many sites where you can install malware on your PC while browsing. Or download a file that contains malware. Don’t forget to download those files. Use all browsers that do the opposite. That blocks malicious code and prevents it from running on your computer.

> Avoid streaming or downloading pirated movies, songs, books, or apps. They are more likely to have malware. Which can make your PC a mess.

> Go to the office or different places with a laptop. But never connect someone else’s USB or other “external device” to your PC. Unbeknownst to you, viruses or malware on these devices will enter your laptop.
