There are many settings to choose the router. The router configuration page presented below on ezone.hk uses the ZTE MC801A 5G router provided by SmarTone 5G Broadband as a demo to teach its settings and optimization skills. Some of the settings can also be applied to other 5G routers or to the Wi-Fi router.

STEP 01
View router status

After connecting to the Wi-Fi of the 5G router, enter “192.168.0.1” into the computer or mobile browser as the URL, and then enter the password printed at the bottom of the machine in the password field to enter the page start of the settings. From the top right corner of the home page, you can see the connected service providers and the signal strength like a mobile phone. As for the central part, you can see the number of connected devices and the bandwidth in use.

Detailed measurement of 5G signal strength

Click on on the home page to test the performance of the 5G connection at your location. After knowing the result, the user can also enter the name of the indoor location to be tested, such as hallway, kitchen, bedroom, etc., to record the 5G signal strength of different indoor locations.

Visitor Wi-Fi

Then click under the words “Wi-Fi” on the home page to enter the Wi-Fi setup page. From the page , the user can additionally enable the visitor-specific Wi-Fi signal and set a simpler password for the visitor to use.

STEP 05
Upgrade 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi transceiver

If you want to improve the performance of the 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi signal, you can use the “Wifi Analyzer” app on your phone to check the nearby Wi-Fi channels. Then on the page on the Wi-Fi settings page, change the “Frequency Channel” from 2.4GHz to a channel used by fewer nearby Wi-Fi signals to improve the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal strength.

STEP 06
Adjust Wi-Fi signal coverage

At the bottom of the page On the Wi-Fi settings page, there are Wi-Fi coverage settings for Wi-Fi coverage. The Wi-Fi coverage mode with the largest range of “Long Range Wi-Fi Coverage” is selected by default. If a dedicated mobile battery is used for the power supply instead of the AC power supply, the narrower range of “Short” “Range Wi-Fi coverage” can be selected. STEP 07
Share nearby Wi-Fi signals

There is also the function on the Wi-Fi settings page, which can connect to nearby Wi-Fi signals and then share the Wi-Fi connection through the Wi-Fi sent by the router, turning the 5G router into “Wi-Fi Internet” – Router Fi. “In the case of not being able to receive 4G LTE or 5G signals, this function can be used to great advantage, sharing nearby Wi-Fi with weak signals to the whole house.

STEP 08
Parental management function

Click on on the router’s home page to enter the parent management page. You can see the devices connected to the router. Press on the side of the device to add the device to the “Children’s Devices” list of children’s devices.

STEP 09
Limit the device’s time to surf the Internet

Click the button next to the device in the “Devices for kids” list on page to set the day of the week and for what period of time the device cannot access the Internet, in order to limit the children’s connection time.

STEP 10
UPnP BT function speed up

Click on on the router’s home page, and then click → . After clicking To enable UPnP function, when downloading files with BT software such as “µTorrent”, the port forwarding setting can be completed automatically, which greatly improves the speed of BT downloads.

STEP 11
Online game port pairing

Each online game uses a specific port. By completing the relevant port pairing settings, you can improve connection stability. The relevant settings can be checked on the official website of the game. From → → , users can complete the corresponding port pairing settings according to the instructions on the game’s official website. Please note that the “IP Address” must enter the IP address of the gaming device. The IP address can be found by running “Command Prompt” in “Windows 10” and then entering the “ipconfig” command.

STEP 12
Connect to a specific VPN client

Finally, enter the page → and click to configure the settings of the VPN Client function. This function allows the router to connect to a specific VPN server for a long time, to achieve the purpose of strengthening connection privacy protection, accessing intranet data, and removing regional locks. For example, by connecting the router to a Japanese VPN, you can use the router’s Wi-Fi network to play mobile game applications exclusively in Japan.
