Nier Reincarnation, the latest game from the same universe as Nier Replicant and Nier Automata, is now available on iOS and Android as a free role-playing game.
While Reincarnation is available for download, not everyone may be able to play it until the following Wednesday, as announced by the game’s official Twitter account.
Nier Reincarnation: the game is free
As is typical in Nier games, Nier Reincarnation (NieR Re[in]carnation) has a story shrouded in mystery: “A girl wakes up on a cold stone floor,” says the game’s description, and a creature named Mama takes her to explore her surroundings in a place called The Cage.
While series creator Yoko Taro is returning as creative director on Reincarnation, the game is a collaboration between Square Enix and the Applibot studio. Veteran fans of the franchise will be delighted with a crossover event paired with the game’s launch, featuring characters from Nier Automata 2B, 9S, and A2 as optional allies that can battle alongside the player in Reincarnation.
Square Enix works a lot for mobile games
While it may be strange to see a Nier game launch on mobile devices, Square Enix has been releasing games on smartphones for years. Most of them are remasters of classic games, from the original Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy 9. The studio has also released smartphone games like the Apple Arcade launch title Vari DayLife, as well as the acclaimed turn-based strategy games GO. . (Hitman GO, Lara Croft GO and Deus Ex GO).
Nier Reincarnation belongs to the latter as a game made for smartphones, although it will likely have its own unique narrative. We wouldn’t expect its controls or gameplay to be very different from its console counterparts, although that’s always possible.
