WhatsApp officially introduces a long-awaited feature

Date:

WhatsApp has introduced its own View Once feature, which removes photos or videos from the chat after the recipient opens it. The platform seeks to better compete with the Snapchat image messaging application.

When submitting a photo or video, you can select to display this content only once by clicking button 1 to the right of the submit button. Once the recipient opens it, it is deleted.

Once the multimedia content is displayed, the message appears as open. The recipient can see that it is a hidden image. So it’s a feature that you might want to use with people you trust won’t take a screenshot (you won’t know if they did).

In June, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that the feature was available. This despite the paucity of details on the date of its release.

As an example of how to use the function, the platform uses the example of sending an image of sensitive information. I like the password of your wireless network or share a picture of the clothes you have tried on

There are probably other less useful uses for this type of function. But either way, it’s worth choosing between hiding the app’s messages, which currently disappear after a week, and your permanent chat history.

Snapchat, known for its Stories feature that allows users to post updates that disappear after 24 hours, has gained popularity in the last year as pandemic restrictions have kept users at home.

The company has also added new features to its messaging app to attract more users.

Facebook says the new feature is a move to give users more control over their privacy.

“Users may sometimes want to share sensitive content that should not be permanently logged,” he added. With a single view, they can make sure the content disappears after opening it.

The company has also been talking about bringing end-to-end encryption to its line of messaging services. He plans to make it interoperable in the future.

WhatsApp enabled end-to-end encryption by default in 2016. But for Messenger and Instagram, the premium privacy measure can still take years.
